Aventador

What’s devilish has a 6.5-liter V-12 that makes almost 700 horsepower, is made mostly from carbon fiber, has pushrods at all four corners and costs about $500,000? Yup you guessed its Lambo but not just any regular lambo we’re talking about the latest road going terror from Italy, the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4. Lamborghini seems to want to make you believe the Aventador is some kind of four-wheeled weapon system. Why else would you give the starter a red, flip-up safety cover unless pushing the button is dangerous? The amazing fact about the start-stop system is that it only takes 180 milliseconds for the engine to kick back on when the accelerator is pressed. Power to reactivate the engine comes from a capacitor instead of a battery. The decision to use a capacitor instead of a battery was quite a smart one, as the capacitor charges much quicker than a battery and saves the car 7 pounds. All of these changes have raised the Aventador’s fuel economy from 13.7mpg to 14.7mpg. The CO2 emissions are also dropping from 398g of CO2/lm to 370g/km. Other changes to the Aventador include stiffer springs, reorganized dampers that deliver a smoother and more comfortable driving experience.

Performance
  • 0–62 mph: 2.9 s
  • 1/4 mile: 10.6 s @ 133 mph (214 km/h)
  • Top speed: 217 mph (349 km/h), 354 km/h
  • 60–0: 100 ft.
Its transmission, a single-clutch seven-speed semi-automatic, is built by Graziano Trasmissioni. Although being single-clutch, gear-shifts are accomplished in 50 milliseconds.
The brand new, electronically controlled, four-wheel drive system is developed and supplied by the Swedish company Haldex Traction, offering superb traction and handling capabilities based on their 4th generation technology. This car is truely amazing every second it’s running, the all-new, dry-sump 6.5-liter V-12 is a vocal presence behind the driver’s right shoulder. This engine never whispers in your ear. Instead, it screams with satisfaction each time it’s stimulated. Unfortunately some of us may never get the chance to drive this raging bull but hey we can always dream. You never know maybe tomorrow the opportunity may present itself and you'll be behind the wheel of this awesome Aventador.
